A Diablo (1996) modBrutal Diablo

Chasing the Diablo fever dream we all had in 1996.
Same game. Improved graphics, darker, bloodier.

What it is

Diablo (1996), modded. Same game, same quests, same Butcher, with a visual uplift.

Same game

Nothing rebalanced, nothing “reimagined”. The quests, the monsters, the loot: all where you left them in 1996. The only thing added is running in town. Miss the old pixels? Press H to switch between the original graphics and the new ones, anytime, like in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Tristram by day, the Warrior on his way to the church

Improved graphics, darker

The game’s art, recreated to match the original. Nothing invented: the same shapes and the same frames, the way your memory says they looked.

Torches that actually light things. Shadows the town never had. Tristram at night is a different place now.

Bloodier

Every monster has several ways to die, and each kill leaves a puddle of blood on the floor.

Next, if all goes well: deaths worked out from 3D models of the monsters, so no two kills look the same. More blood, more particles.

Bits from the workbench.

Material from the development process lands here as we make it. And one day, the mod itself. Nothing up yet.

Where we are: Tristram, the Cathedral and the Catacombs are done. The rest of the dungeon follows, level by level.

Tips

Brutal Diablo will be free once released. Throw a coin and it goes into dev time, GPU hours and coffee.

This mod is a love letter to the original game, so nothing here is for sale. But every tip really helps us keep the development going. Thank you.
